Brighter colors and bolder patterns are at the center of this spring’s fashion trends. Yellow, green, pink and other vivid colors are replacing the neutral shades that dominated recent years under the influence of minimalism. But bright colors can be difficult to wear. Yellow or orange clothing, for example, can make a yellow-toned complexion look even more yellow. Women’s clothing brands Women’s Crocodile and Clémont offer tips for wearing this spring’s colors in ways that suit your complexion. ■ Fair Complexion… Choose Bright, Warm Colors A clear, fair complexion suits almost any color, including very bright, intense shades that others may find difficult to wear. The drawback is that it can sometimes look too pale. “Warm colors can bring life to a pale face,” said Jang Mi-jung, head of design at Women’s Crocodile. “Blue tones or black clothing may make the face look even paler.” For a healthy glow, choose red or orange. If wearing yellow, try a deeper shade with a reddish undertone, such as mustard. ■ Dark Complexion… Look Polished in Blue Bright, intense colors can make a dark complexion look duller, and warm colors may have the same effect. Cool blue tones can create a polished look. If you want to wear yellow or orange, use it as an accent under an outer layer. A multicolored print can also make yellow or orange easier to wear. “When styling this year’s bright colors, the key is to pair them with colors that provide balance,” advised Kang Min-ju, head of design at Clémont. “Black or gray can help the outfit harmonize with your complexion.” ■ Yellow-Toned Complexion… Brighten It with Mixed Prints Solid yellow or orange clothing can make a yellow-toned complexion look even more yellow. Instead of sticking to solid colors, try the varied prints popular this spring, including florals. Choose prints that mix bright yellow or orange with balancing colors such as black, gray, green or blue. This lets you follow the trend while softening the appearance of yellow undertones. Another option is to wear yellow on the bottom rather than near your face.
