Helping Starving People in Kenya, with Plans to Support North Korean Residents as Well

Jane Park(31), who was selected as the most beautiful married Asian woman at the ‘Mrs. Asia USA’ California pageant〈See Page A-1 of the 11th edition>, is attracting attention for her exceptional volunteer work.

Park, who previously worked as a CNN reporter and is currently active as an actress, model, and MC, said, “As a ‘professional’ entertainer, I had no particular reason to enter a beauty pageant.

However, I decided to participate because I believed it would provide an opportunity to raise broader awareness about African children suffering from hunger,” she explained in an interview with this newspaper on the 10th.

Park has supported Kenya for many years through the ‘Global Volunteer Network’(GVN).

She said, “To mark World Food Day on the 16th, GVN is holding a fundraising campaign called ‘Eat So They Can’(www.eatsotheycan.org). I hope many Korean Americans will participate.”

She will soon travel to Kenya for the campaign.

She is also planning activities to support North Korean residents.

Park said, “While working as a reporter, I visited Berlin to produce a program commemorating the 10th anniversary of German reunification. Being there allowed me to examine the United States from a global perspective.” She continued, “From that moment, I decided to dedicate the rest of my life to helping disadvantaged and oppressed people throughout the world.”

She added, “I am very grateful that winds of peace are blowing across the Korean Peninsula in connection with the recent inter-Korean summit,” and “I am developing plans to help the people of North Korea.”

People from various sectors of the community are supporting her activities, including hanbok researcher Mi-hee Kim and Koreatown community leader Dr. Hong-beom Lee.
