Adult film actress Choi Eun(27), who auditioned for ‘SuperstarK2,’ will appear on stage in Daehangno. She will make her Seoul theatrical debut as Sylvia, the female protagonist who becomes an artist’s nude model, in the adult play ‘Private Lessons,’ opening at Woori Theater in Daehangno on the 28th of this month. Inspired by the film ‘Private Lessons,’ starring Sylvia Kristel, and Vladimir Nabokov’s novel ‘Lolita,’ the production is expected to generate controversy because Choi Eun plans to appear fully nude for more than 30 minutes. The following is a telephone interview with Choi Eun.

- Is this your first time performing on stage?

“No. I majored in acting at university and performed in several plays in Gwangju. This will be my debut on stage in Seoul. In 2005, I nearly appeared in a play in Daehangno after being introduced by an acquaintance. However, I declined because they offered me only 300,000 won per month. I could not ignore financial reality. Now, I have finally received an opportunity.”

- What motivated you to take on an adult play?

“Am I not already widely known for appearing nude? I believe nudity in theater is different. Honestly, I do not feel burdened by the exposure. On stage, I am simply Sylvia, and there is a clear reason why the character must be nude. I will perform confidently. Sylvia herself is a confident character.”

- What do you think about the way people view adult film actresses?

“Although I became an adult film actress, I consider myself an actress rather than an adult film actress. Appearing nude was embarrassing at first, but now I feel confident. My mother and father also support and encourage me. I do not think anyone regards me as a genuine actress yet. Through this production, I will establish myself as an actress.”

- You said you were hurt during the ‘SuperstarK’ audition. What happened?

“I was interested in becoming a singer and wanted to find out how good my singing was. However, the judges’ expressions and the way they looked at me showed that they were interested only in the fact that I was an adult film actress. That upset me. Yoon Jong-shin said, ‘Just focus on the work you already do,’ but that part was edited out of the broadcast. I cried after hearing it. I felt extremely hurt. At that moment, I became determined to prove myself as an actress. There is also a scene in the play where I sing. I would like to invite Yoon Jong-shin to see the production.”

- Are you doing anything special to prepare for the play?

“I spend a great deal of time thinking about my character. Acting is the only thing on my mind. Even on the subway, all I do is read the script. I am also paying close attention to my abdominal fat and overall physical condition.”

- What is the difference between acting in adult films and acting on stage?

“In AV, bedroom scenes must be portrayed realistically. On screen, the performance must make male viewers feel as though they want to sleep with the woman. Theater, however, is a place where audiences gather to experience a complete work.”

- Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

“I hope people will refrain from posting malicious comments.”
