As teenage high school models appearing in revealing “gravure” photo shoots continue to draw attention, interest has turned to how much they earn.

Recently, Choi Eun-jung, known by the nickname “Good Glamour,” became a much-discussed figure online. Remarks attributed to her, including “Your teens are the best age to undress” and “Older models’ photo shoots are disgusting,” repeatedly put her near the top of trending-search lists.

　While still in high school, she has earned money through photo shoots and work as an online video host. How much do models doing similar work make?
\Gravure modeling is a thriving industry in Japan, with tens of thousands of models. In Korea, however, only two companies specialize in gravure photo shoots, and the number of models is small.

　“Gravure has not yet developed into an established industry in Korea, so modeling fees are not particularly high,” said Shim Young-gyu, head of one of those companies, Sagwawuyu Communication.

　Pay varies by company and model, but a two-year contract is common. A model typically receives an exclusive-contract payment of about 3 million won, plus 2 million won for each photo shoot. If the photos generate revenue through other content, the model receives 5% of that revenue. For appearances paying 1 million won or less, the model keeps the full fee. These can be substantial sums for women in their late teens or early twenties.

　“I’m not paid a huge amount, but I can earn more if I work hard,” Choi said. “I’m fairly satisfied with what I’m receiving now.”

　Gravure generally refers to photo or video shoots featuring models in swimsuits or bikinis, without full nudity. The models are usually women in their late teens to early twenties.
