Color is the theme of star designer Marc Jacobs’s 2009 Fall/Winter collection.

There is a saying that miniskirts come into fashion during a recession. With the downturn that began last year, signs of a fashion revolution are appearing in New York, too.

Perhaps it reflects the Obama era’s slogans of “hope” and “change.” The name of this fashion revolution is color. Bold primary hues drew attention at the Fall/Winter collections of 2009 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, held in New York from February 13 to 20.

At shows held in Manhattan’s Bryant Park and elsewhere across New York, designers from Narciso Rodriguez, a favorite of First Lady Michelle Obama, to Oscar de la Renta, whose designs were worn by Nancy Reagan and Laura Bush, presented colorful fashions.

Korean designers also participated in this year’s shows. They included Doo-Ri Chung of Doo.Ri, Richard Chai and Chris Han; Parsons graduates Andy Kim and Debb Yoon of ‘Andy & Debb’ (Andy & Debb); and Korean designer Song Eun-young and Japanese designer Shoji Wada of E.W. Wada.
